Elsie - Tortoise

Elsie the tortoise owned by vet Caroline was brought into practice after being unwell. Following investigation, x-ray images showed that Elsie had a condition called follicular stasis.

This condition occurs when the eggs do not develop properly and are without a shell. These undeveloped eggs remain inside the body and can make an affected tortoise very ill.

Follicular stasis can only be corrected by spaying, an operation to remove the ovaries and oviducts.

Elsie underwent surgery and has recovered well. Following lots of TLC at home, Elsie is back to her old happy self!
